Roger Vann, a former New Haven civil-rights leader who went on to lead the state ACLU and then serve as number two of the national NAACP, has taken on a new challenge: running a group called State Voices.
The organization, which helps organize grassroots “civic engagement” coalitions, announced Thursday that it has hired Vann (pictured) as its new executive director.
A release from the nonpartisan organization (read about it here) cited Vann’s work at the NAACP overseeing a national voter registration drive that signed up more than 400,000 people in 2012.
“Since the network’s start in 2008, I’ve watched State Voices grow, evolve and ultimately change the way progressives organize on the ground in the states. I wanted to be a part of that movement,” the release quoted Vann as saying. “At the NAACP, I learned how to create and execute a big picture strategy. State Voices is a big picture kind of organization. I’m excited to bring my vision, skills and experience to the network.”
