Adult Toy” Threat Ends In Arrest

It was another week of scams and wheel thieves in Westville, plus a threat against a foot surgeon’s staff involving an adult toy.”

Those are some of the highlights from the latest weekly round-up of incidents prepared by top West Hills/ Westville / West Rock / Amity / Beverly Hills cop Lt. Rose Dell.

Her write-up follows:

FROM 5/12/19 to 5/19/19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 182 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE WESTVILLE/WEST HILLS SECTION OF NEW HAVENTHE FOLLOWING ISBRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:

Over the weekend the wheel thieves struck again. A vehicle on Alden Avenue and one on Westwood Road were found hoisted onto cement bricks with all four tires removed.

Officer Matthew Vernik responded to a threatening complaint at a foot surgeon’s office on Blake Street. A patient became irate when he was notified by a phone call from the staff that his appointment needed to be rescheduled. Despite the staff’s best efforts to accommodate the patient, he threatened to kill them and assault them with an adult toy. He was arrested at his home in Trumbull for putting his foot in his mouth.

On 5/14, a neighbor on Fairfield Street saw an unknown male subject walking up and down the sidewalk for around five minutes. The subject then ran up onto her neighbor’s porch and stole a freshly delivered package of groceries. The neighbor ran after the subject, told him to stop and then saw him enter the passenger seat of a Honda Civic. She described him as a tall black male with a thin build wearing a navy-blue winter jacket, white hat, blue jeans and a plaid shirt.

On 5/15, a resident of Barnett Street reported that his wallet had been stolen from his vehicle. He contacted all his credit card companies immediately but discovered that his card had already been used at multiple stores throughout the city. Police will attempt to locate video footage of the purchases.

A resident of Wayfarer Street reported that he received an email in his spam folder from a mystery shopper.” He was instructed to complete a survey and buy Apple gift cards for $1,000 and $750. He did both and then sent the gift card information to the company. He received three checks in the mail, two for $2450 and one for $1950. He was unable to cash any of the checks.

On 5/17, police responded to Curtis Drive on an assault. An unknown male subject walked up the resident’s driveway and tried to steal his gas can. He confronted the male who then threw a cell phone at his stomach and a rock through his front window. Officers located the subject a short distance away where he was placed under arrest for assault and criminal mischief.

On 5/18, police responded to the report of a burglary on Cleveland Road. A resident found the side door to her garage open and the rear window broken. Two mountain bikes and a weed wacker power head attachment were stolen. Officers located a grey sweatshirt hanging over the fence in the rear yard. This item was seized as possible evidence.
