A 74-year-old woman was hospitalized with “serious injuries” after someone attacked her and stole her car in the Hamden Plaza parking lot.
So reported Hamden police spokesperson Sean J. Dolan.
He said the attack occurred Friday around 3 p.m.
“The victim was placing her purchases into the car, when she was violently thrown to the ground from behind,” Dolan stated in a release.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that three suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle. The suspects arrived in another stolen vehicle, which was recovered by police at the crime scene. The recovered stolen vehicle is suspected of being involved in a theft of a pocketbook for a vehicle.”
Police later recovered the carjacking victim’s vehicle. They ask anyone with information about the incident to call them at 203 – 230-4000.
Hamden police are also asking for information about an incident that occurred on the 1400 block of Whitney Avenue Friday around 8:45 p.m. A driver traveling southbound struck a bicyclist, then fled the scene. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital to be treated for “serious injuries.”
Meanwhile, on Thursday at around 4:30 a.m., Hamden Officers William Pesanelli and Vicenzo Palma responded to a report of vehicle break-ins. They arrested a 46-year-old man and confiscated “numerous items that were taken from vehicles in the neighborhood,” Dolan reported. The man was charged with third-degree burglary and larceny.
Another attack on an elderly victim in the Hamden Plaza is an attack on one of the most vulnerable population in the town. The suspects when caught need to be arrested and held without bond. Their behavior is criminal, cowardly and disgraceful.
One day crooks like this will meet up with a victim who may give the a taste of their own behavior back.
