89-Year-Old Man Robbed, Tied Up

An 89-year-old man was robbed of his wallet and car keys and tied up by a home invader — who possibly had a machete — in the West Hills neighborhood.

City police spokesperson Shayna Kendall sent out an email press release about that robbery Tuesday afternoon.

At around 11:30 a.m., she wrote, police reported to a home invasion in the area of Valley Street between West Hills Road and Emerson Street.

Police identified the victim at the scene of the incident – an 89 year old male from New Haven suffering from minor injuries and facial lacerations.” That man was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Kendall continued that the victim was walking into his home when a man followed him inside, demanded money, assaulted him and tied him up. The suspect was possibly in possession of a machete. The suspect stole money from the victim’s wallet as well as vehicle keys. The suspect then fled the home and the victim was able to free himself and get emergency assistance. The victim’s vehicle was not taken at this time.”

The Investigative Services Division Robbery & Burglary Unit and Bureau of Identification are investigating the case.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203 – 946-6304 or submit tips anonymously by calling 1 – 866-888-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be texted. Text NHPD” plus your message to short code 274637 (CRIMES)
