Arrest Made In Shooting

Police caught one man they said shot somebody Sunday, and released new details about the day’s spree.

Three separate shootings were reported between 3:09 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. Sunday, with five gunshot victims. A 29-year-old man was killed in one of those shootings; read about that here.

The arrest involved the second shooting of the day, which took place around 5:30 p.m. on Shelton Avenue. Two men were shot inside a car; they told police they were victims of an armed robbery” during which the robbers fired guns, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman. One called police to report being shot in the leg. A second victim drove himself, fast, to Yale-New Haven; along the way he collided with a Nissan Maxima, at which point cops flooded the area.

A third man showed up at the Hospital of St. Raphael later with a head wound. None of the victims’ wounds are considered life-threatening.

It turned out that that third man was one of the robber/shooters, according to police. Police arrested him on a variety of assault, weapons, robbery, and narcotics charges. A second suspect in the incident remains at large. Detective Jeff Goodwin led the team that investigated the shooting.

The day’s first shooting was reported at 3:09 p.m., also around Shelton Avenue. A 17-year-old male victim showed up afterwards at Yale-New Haven. Here’s what he told cops, according to Hartman: He was walking in the area of Shelton Avenue and Starr Street when he heard gunshots and felt pain in his left leg. He called a family member and got a ride to the hospital. A crime scene was not located.”
