BAR Requires Proof To Enter — Of Vaccination Or Negative Covid Test

Grateful for businesses like BAR that are opting to be part of the solution. Will be buying pizza exclusively from BAR for the next month.

They can do what they want as a private business. In my view, a pizza place has no business seeing my health records. I am vaccinated, but I won't be going to BAR while this is in place.

It just blows my mind this is all based on an extremely flawed study in Provincetown. And by the way, no one there got severely ill or died. But they were partying and co-mingling in a way that would encourage much more spread than visiting the grocery store or dining at BAR.

If anything, the CDC has now put more doubt in the anti-vax types. They're now convinced the vaccines don't work. Public messaging nightmare. Nothing new.

We've lost the plot: vaccines work, and they almost eliminate severe outcomes.

Good for them! I haven't been there since the pandemic, but will be getting a large mashed potato and bacon pie this week!

I believe this is a good move for all patrons. I would not attend such a location without knowing that others are vaccinated or not carrying the virus. This is an important public health measure, not a personal choice item. It is a PUBLIC HEALTH issue. Please care for your neighbor.

I am happy that Bar (my old stomping ground 20 years ago) is doing this, I would be more at ease in a location where people were vaccinated or had a negative Covid test prior to entering, i am not doing many indoor venues these days, but this would help keep businesses open and customers coming.

This should be the law of the land.

And yes, in the middle of a global pandemic, everyone should need proof of vaccination before being allowed entry to crowded indoor spaces - restaurants, classrooms, theaters, places of work, etc.

When right-wing media has propagandized
people to a point where they don't trust the consensus of healthcare professionals, - you know this country is in real trouble.

So if people are going out to drink beer, eat pizza, and hook-up for casual sex, it's important to make sure they understand "the science" about Covid and follow the rules from our leaders.

Thank god New Haven is full of so many smart people who could never be duped.

Stylo: While few places may equal the quantity and quality of intimacy of Bear Week, (Fire Island & Ibiza, perhaps?), most bars and nightclubs lean the same direction. At times, BAR is a restaurant, but at other times it is a nightclub. My own view is that Lamont's May 19th bar re-opening should have been conditional, requiring proof of vaccination. Bars already card for age, so checking for vaccination status is pretty simple.

BTW, I have read that 4 fully vaccinated of the 882+ infected in P'town were hospitalized. A week ago, 20 York had 47 CoViD-19 patients, of whom 7 were vaccinated. So, severe infection among the vaccinated is rare, but possible.
Medical privacy makes it hard to determine actual risk. What underlying conditions did people have? What ages were they?

Noteworthy, in fact, in CT you can only vote as a first time voter if you show ID. From the CT "Voter Fact Sheet:"

"The first time you check in at your polling place, you will need to present the proper identification to vote."

I don't know of much "pearl-clutching" over this. The general objection is to requiring expensive state-issued ID, which is a financial tax on voting.

In contrast, vaccines are free and they give you the card for free. So, Republicans who support strict voter ID laws must all be in favor of vaccine passports (or so I suppose).

I applaud BAR for taking the initiative of requiring proof of vaccinations AND requiring masks of their patrons and staff.
Yes, the vaccine helps prevent the likelihood of you getting very sick, being hospitalized or dying from covid if you are fully vaccinated and you get infected.
BUT, there are still fully vaccinated people who will get infected with delta or other variants and while they might not get symptoms or feel only mild symptoms, they can still infect other people.
The more we pass around the virus, the more chances it has to mutate to a variant that is immune to the vaccines, is more deadly, or is more infectious.
The best way to avoid getting hospitalized, or getting long term covid syndrome, or dying is to get fully vaccinated.
The best way to stop the spread and the mutating of the virus is to get fully vaccinated, wear your mask properly over your nose and mouth, whenever you are indoors, or outside in crowds, or when you can't stay 6 feet apart from people outside of your household,
and wash/sterilize your hands, and don't touch your face unless it is immediately after cleaning your hands.
It is up to all of us to do everything in our power to stop the spread of this virus.

Esbey & Noteworthy: This Republican favors both proof of identity for voting and proof of vaccination for high risk areas like bars. A government identification card cost $28 in Conn., up from $8 not long ago due to Democrat fee increases. To remove the argument that it is a poll tax, however minimal, I would support free identification. Georgia gives free identification. One current problem with Connecticut government identification cards is they do not differentiate between citizens and aliens, so in and of themselves they do not prove eligibility to vote. Permanent Resident Aliens can get a verified "Real ID".
