Christopher Martin’s Burglar Foiled

When Officer Charles Kim responded to a report of a middle-of-the-night attempted robbery at Christopher Martin’s bar, he found a man with a hammer, knife, and 2‑foot metal bar, who already had the frame of the restaurant’s door halfway off.

Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman:

At 3:29 a.m. Wednesday, Officer Kim responded to a burglar alarm call at the Christopher Martin’s bar on State Street. He arrived to find a man with a hammer in his hand outside the dining room door and saw that a portion of the door frame had been detached. Kim arrested the man, whom he found had been trying to break in. The 53-year-old man was later taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital after he claimed he was ill. Christopher Martin’s owner later arrived and determined the man had not gained entry to the restaurant.
