Capt. Anthony Duff did not fire his weapon when he confronted a murderer and got shot in the process.

So New Haven police reported Thursday.

The information came in a press release related to the ongoing investigation into the Aug. 12 incident in which Duff, while off-duty, came upon a fatal shooting, confronted the shooter, who then struck him several times and sent him to the hospital. The same shooter allegedly killed a man named Troy Clark.

Duff went home last week after ten days in the hospital. He appeared Thursday at the weekly Compstat data-sharing meeting of cops at 1 Union Ave.

New Haven police announced that they have taken over the investigation, which previously had been overseen by the State’s Attorney’s office, as is customary with cases involving local officers. It was transferred because, once state investigators determined that Duff had not fired his weapon, it was no longer an officer-involved shooting.”
