Pizza Deliverers Attacked

A 54-year-old pizza delivery driver is in the hospital in critical condition after someone shot him at Ferry and Clay Streets in Fair Haven Friday at around 11:15 p.m.

Detectives are investigating the incident, according to police spokesman Capt. Anthony Duff.

They are also investigating a shooting that took place earlier on Friday, around noon: Someone shot an 18-year-old Hamden man in a vehicle parked on Cave Street near Winchester Avenue, according to Duff. The man was treated in the hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

On the west side of town, someone went on a tire-slashing streak on Dayton Street, Fountain Street, and Pardee Place, hitting 21 vehicles. And another pizza delivery man was carjacked at gunpoint in the Brookside Estates housing development. Those were among the highlights of a summary of incidents that occurred between Jan. 19 and Jan. 26 in West Hills, Westville, Amity, and Beverly Hills, prepared by that area’s top cop, Lt. Rose Dell.

On Tuesday morning, police responded to the area of Morton Lane and Brooklawn Circle on a suspicious vehicle. A resident heard a car door close, peered out her window and saw a male wearing a black snow suit exit a vehicle. The male ran towards Brooklawn Circle and dropped a book bag. Another vehicle pulled up, grabbed the book bag and took off. Dispatch then informed the responding Officers that a green Jeep Cherokee had just been stolen from Judwin Avenue. Officer Rubino confirmed it was the stolen vehicle and then contacted the owner. She had just dropped her sister off on Judwin Avenue and ran inside while the vehicle was still running. She had the key fob in her pocket. While she was inside, her car was stolen. The recovered vehicle was returned to the owner, but her computer and breast pump with attachments were missing.

A resident of a Fountain Street apartment complex encountered an unknown male in the basement laundry room. The resident questioned the subject who said he was visiting a friend. He then pushed the resident aside, ran outside and took off on a bike. The washing machine was found turned over on its side with the coin operated mechanism was missing.

On Wednesday evening, a resident of Alden Avenue was in her bedroom when she heard someone come in through the upstairs door. She walked into the adjacent room and saw a male wearing a long black trench coat. He then said, wrong house,” and quickly left. There were no signs of forced entry, and the landlord believes he may have accidentally left the back door open earlier in the day.

A burglary occurred on Thursday morning on Bosley Street. The residents left the home for a few hours in the morning. When they returned at around noon, they found the rear ground level window was open and rain was pouring into the residence. A PlayStation and car keys were stolen. Forensic detectives processed the scene for fingerprints and DNA.

On 1/25/19, police responded to Pardee Place to investigate a burglary. The homeowner explained that her home is currently for sale and is vacant. She received a call from her realtor who informed her that a pipe had burst in the basement causing a flood. She arrived at the residence and found the rear door frame broken and several inches of water in the basement. The Fire Department responded to shut off the water and found cooper piping missing from the water pipes and furnace.

On Sunday morning, police responded to Pardee Place on a vandalism complaint. A resident drove a quarter mile from her home and then realized that three of her tires were flat. She walked back to her residence and discovered that her other vehicle also had a flat tire. While Officers were still on scene, dispatch reported to them that they continued to receive calls from additional residents in the area who had their tires slashed. A total of 21 vehicles were vandalized on Pardee Place, Fountain Street and Fairfield Street. Officer Bengston located a razor style knife next to one of the vehicles on Fairfield Street. This was seized and will be processed for fingerprints and DNA. One neighbor reported that he may have video and will attempt to download it for police.
