Roundup: 2 Teens Shot; Woman, 61, Injured In Purse-Snatching

Two teens were shot in New Haven’s Hill neighborhood Monday, and a 61-year-old woman was injured when a purse-snatcher attacked her at Hamden Plaza.

New Haven police responded to a report about the shooting, on Lamberton Street between Button and Arthur, at 2:27 p.m., according to New Haven police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway.

Officers found a 16-year-old New Haven male and a 15-year-old New Haven male that had been struck by gunfire,” Shumway wrote in a release. The victims are listed in stable condition at Yale New Haven Hospital.

The Hamden Plaza attack took place in the parking lot around 7 p.m., according to a release from Hamden police spokesperson Detective Sean J. Dolan: The mugger knocked the woman down to the ground from behind,” took her pocketbook, then fled in a newer model, black colored car which was followed by a newer model, white colored car.”

The woman sustained injuries to her lower and upper extremities from the attack,” Dolan reported. Police are investigating. The current Hamden municipal campaign has featured discussion about safety concerns some voters have about shopping in town.
