(Updated) A man was accidentally shot to death Friday morning outside the York Street Walgreens, police said.
Police received the call about the shooting in the 88 York St. parking lot at 10:13 a.m.
“Everything right now is suggesting it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound” or else an accidental shooting by someone else, reported Police Chief Otoniel Reyes.
Reyes said a witness observed the shooting and told police about it.
Police later arrested the witness for having also handled the gun. The investigation is ongoing.
Update: Police Tuesday identified the victim as Richard Rodriguez, 33, who lived in New Haven and, before that, the Hartford area.
In a separate incident, a 22-year-old man is in the hospital in “critical but stable condition” after someone shot him in the abdomen and back on Bouchet Lane after 10 p.m. Thursday, according to police spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff.
