Dirt Biker Dies In Crash

A 28-year-old New Haven man died Saturday evening after he crashed his Yamaha dirt bike on Sherman Avenue.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. The rider, Tywan Ty Ty” Samuels, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman.

Speed was a factor,” Hartman reported in a release. The Crash Reconstruction Team will take a while to form a conclusion about the crash, Hartman stated, but witnesses claimed they heard the dirt bike’s revved engine and heard the crash … No other vehicle was likely involved.”

Friends of Samuels held a vigil at the crash site Sunday evening. It turned unruly” and involved numerous” ATVs and dirt bikes being operated illegally,” according to Hartman.

It took a lot of cops to manage the unruliness,” Hartman reported.

Two cops tackled one fleeing rider and found crack on him, Hartman said; they confiscated his drugs and ATV and charged him with numerous offenses.

Two other officers, spotting 25 dirt bikes and ATVs converging” on the area, followed and arrested one rider for reckless driving, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and marijuana possession.
