Double Dunkin Robberies

Two Dunkin Donuts stores were robbed on Tuesday, police said.

According to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:

At 4 p.m. a man entered the Dunkin Donuts at 1179 Chapel St. downtown with a handgun. He demanded money, and the clerk handed it over.

At 8:38 p.m. man entered the Dunkin Donuts at 294 Foxon Blvd. in Quinnipiac Meadows and asked for a small black coffee. He then pulled out a large black semi-automatic handgun and asked the clerk to enter his social security number and open the register. The robber then got spooked” and left. He got into an older four-door tan Saturn which was parked behind the Days Inn next door.

Tuesday’s Dunkin Donuts robberies follow another one last Friday. Police are looking for a suspect pictured in a surveillance image from that robbery.

Guilty Plea In Food Stamp Fraud Charge

The Connecticut U.S. States Attorney announced that the 55-year-old former owner of a convenience store on Ferry Street in Fair Haven pleaded guilty to one count of food stamp fraud.

According to court statements and records, East Haven’s Talib Jawad Kadhim redeemed food stamps for cash and ineligible items at his store, Mari Mart, between January 2008 and March 2009. Items such as alcohol and cigarettes are ineligible for purchase under the federal food stamp program.

Kadhim will be sentenced on March 11. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of up to $250,000.

Mari Mart has been under new ownership since mid-2009.
