Fly To Nantucket

Beginning in three weeks, people will be able to fly from New Haven to Nantucket, at least four months a year.

Southern Airways Express announced the new flights in the following press release:

Southern Airways Announces Seasonal Service to Nantucket from New Haven and two other New England airports

Pompano Beach, Fla. May 22, 2019 — Southern Airways Express, the fastest-growing commuter airline in America, announces seasonal service from New Haven (HVN), Providence (PVD), and the Boston suburb of Norwood (OWD) for the 2019 summer travel season. The flights, which begin on June 14th, mark the first flights in New England for the carrier.

Weekend service will begin from New Haven on June 14th and will continue through October 14. Flights will operate Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with fares starting at $199 each way. Tickets are on sale now.

These flights mark the first time that the Tweed/New Haven airport has had scheduled service to Nantucket since Provincetown-Boston Airlines operated the route in 1987. It is also the only scheduled service between Providence and Nantucket, and the first-ever commercial airline service at Norwood.
We are excited about bringing this key gateway to our new Nantucket hub,” said Mark Cestari, Chief Commercial Officer at Southern Airways. We expect the service to cater to both the weekend crowd as well as island locals looking for a convenient rail connection to New York City.”

Southern’s flights will be operated on roomy and quiet Cessna Grand Caravans, which are nine-seat turbine aircraft. This is the largest plane serving Nantucket that is designed for nine passengers,” says Cestari. It has plenty of luggage capacity and provides a more pleasant flying experience than the older piston aircraft traditionally used in the islands by other carriers.”

Southern, with operational footprints in the Gulf South, the mid-Atlantic, and South Florida, recently acquired Mokulele Airlines, a carrier providing service throughout the Hawaiian Islands and in Southern California. Following the integration of the two airlines, expected to be complete by mid-summer, the new Southern Airways will operate over 1,400 weekly flights, more than any other commuter carrier in the 50 states.
