With swift unanimity, aldermen Monday ordered the city take a 30-day hiatus from moving to take people’s homes.
The 30-day moratorium was approved at Monday’s Board of Aldermen meeting though a fast-tracked method called unanimous consent.
The resolution came after an alderman discovered that the DeStefano administration has ignored an order to alert aldermen when someone in their neighborhood is being foreclosed on. It affects owner-occupied homes.
Now that the resolution passed, the city must stop filing any new foreclosure suits or following through on already-filed suits on homeowner-occupied properties for 30 days while it addresses that issue.
Didn't our wonderful mayor talk big about the absent banks foreclosing? Didn't his office say that we were better off with the properties filled?
Between this & some of the proposals to threaten foreclosure on homeowners that have blighted properties I wonder where that big talk has gone now.
Punish the home owner all you want--and watch their tenants suffer. The Destefano administration is incredibly mis-guided in this.
