An early morning attempted robbery turned into a cross-town drive, as a would-be bandit forced a victim to give him a lift in her car, according to police.
Here’s what happened according to police spokesman Officer Joe Avery:
At 3 a.m. on Thursday, a woman pulled her car into the parking lot of the New Alliance Bank at 201 Grand Ave. She intended to use the ATM. As she parked her car, a man got in the passenger side of the car. He pointed a black revolver and said “Give me what you have.”
The man then ordered the woman to drive him near Wolcott Street and Richard Street. Then he jumped out of the car and took off running. He never took anything.
In other police news, according to Avery:
The police narcotics squad conducted two raids on Wednesday, seizing cash, marijuana, and drug-packaging material. Search and seizure warrants were served at both locations at 5 p.m.
Police raided 558 and 580 Winchester Ave. after confirming — through controlled buys — that drugs were being sold there.
At 558 Winchester Ave., police located and arrested two suspects but found no evidence.
At 580 Winchester Ave., police made three arrests and seized $318, 19 bags of marijuana worth about $190, and drug packaging material.
Guilty Plea Entered In Child Pornography Case
The Connecticut U.S. States Attorney announced on Thursday that a 73-year-old New Haven man pleaded guilty in Hartford to one count of possession of child pornography.
The charge stemmed from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigation in April 2009. ICE agents searched the man’s Eastern Street home, seizing a desktop computer, a bag of floppy disks, and a bag of hard drives. The equipment was found to contain over 600 pictures and videos of child pornography.
The man faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years, a fine of up to $250,000, and a minimum period of supervised release of five years.
This prosecution is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, a national program to protect children from internet-based exploitation.
