Hamden Mayor Curt Leng has hired longtime Board of Education member Myron Hul to serve as the town’s next interim finance director.

Hamden Deputy Chief of Staff Patrick Donnelly made the announcement in an email press release sent out on Wednesday afternoon.

Hul, who has served on the town’s Board of Education since the 1990s but failed to win the local Democratic Party endorsement at this summer’s convention, will be responsible for coordinating and directing the town’s financial operations alongside Leng and Deputy Finance Director Rick Galarza.

Mr. Hul’s experience, both in the financial sector and as a public servant, will prove to be invaluable to Hamden as we seek to strengthen our operations and the overall financial health of the Town,” Leng is quoted as saying in the press release. I know that Mr. Hul will work to ensure that Hamden’s financial future is bright, and that my administration continues to maintain careful stewardship of Hamden’s finances.”

Earlier this year, Leng vetoed a town budget proposed by the Legislative Council that would have raised the mill rate to 49.99. The mayor’s $235.99 million budget and 48.73 mill rate subsequently went into effect for the fiscal year that started July 1 when the council failed to muster enough votes to override the veto. Critics on the council have expressed concern that the mayor’s budget does not include realistic revenue assumptions.
