Starting at midnight Sunday (i.e. late into Saturday night), make sure you’re parking on the even side of the street in Hamden.
Anticipating a storm, the town — which seems to get disproportionately hit by bad weather in the region — has issued a ban on parking on the odd-numbered side of the street on Sunday.
The town is also extending hours at its new warming center for the homeless, at Grace & St. Peters Episcopal Church, to remain open from 9 p.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Hamden Warming Center Extends Hours of Operation Due to Expected Inclement Weather
Hamden — Mayor Curt Balzano Leng and Community Development Director, Adam Sendroff, would like to inform Hamden residents that the newly established “Warming Center” located at Grace & St. Peters Episcopal Church (2927 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT 06518) will remain open with extended hours during the inclement weather event which is expected to impact Hamden this weekend.
The Warming Center at Grace & St. Peters Church will be open and offering assistance from 9:00pm on Saturday, January 19th through 7:00am on Tuesday, January 22nd. The Warming Center will be staffed by 2 trained Colombus House employees, who will monitor the overnight and extended day shifts.
These locations are not “shelters”, as no beds will be provided. The locations will offer clean, safe, indoor overnight services to protect those in-need from harsh weather conditions, and who would likely otherwise spend their nights outdoors.
Residents wishing to contribute to the warming centers may do so by donating items such as non-perishable, pre-wrapped snack food items like protein bars, cookies, chips, and other snacks. Fruits such as apples, bananas, clementines, etc. are also requested, in addition to beverages including tea bags, coffee, instant hot-cocoa, sugar, non-dairy creamers, and bottled water. Columbus House respectfully requests that other items such as prepared foods and party leftovers be donated to other charities and community service outlets as applicable.
Donations of new socks, new underwear, gloves and hats are also welcome. Donations may be dropped off at the Keefe Community Center (11 Pine Street, Hamden) between the hours of 8:30 and 4:30. Donation receipts will be available.

Hamden Warming Center Extends Hours of Operation Due to Inclement Weather
Hamden — Mayor Curt B. Leng and Public Works Director, Craig Cesare, have issued a parking ban for the Town of Hamden effective Sunday, January 20th at 12:00am MIDNIGHT until further notice. This ban is being declared pursuant to Section 71.03 of the Code of the Town of Hamden. The parking ban prohibits any person to park, or allow to remain parked, any vehicle on any odd numbered portion of a town street or highway.
The ban further prohibits any person to allow or permit a vehicle to stand or park on any Town street or highway in such a manner as to constitute a hazard or obstruction to vehicular or pedestrian traffic. The Hamden Police Department is authorized, pursuant to Section 71.07 of the Code of the Town of Hamden, to remove any vehicle parked in violation of this ordinance. Such removal shall be at the risk and expense of the owner of the vehicle.

Glad as I am to learn of our neighbor Hamden's plans for the coming snow event, what about New Haven's plans? This is after all the New Haven Independent. And I received a New Haven Alerts email at noon re the parking ban announcement.
