Home Invasion In East Rock

Police are looking for two suspects who fled the scene of an armed home invasion in East Rock Monday afternoon.

The incident took place at 4 p.m. on the 200 block of Huntington Street. According to police spokesman Dave Hartman:

Two women, ages 71 and 58, were carrying in groceries through their back door when two men came up to them. One of them had a gun. The women were forced inside. The elder of the two was tied up.

The two men eventually left with the victim’s car,” a white 2003 Pontiac Aztek, license plate 977·XGC. The car has several bumper stickers on the back (pictured). As of midday Tuesday, police were still looking for the car.

One of the victims works for Yale University; both survived the incident without injury.

Police are also searching for two men of the following descriptions:

The first perpetrator is a thin black man who stands about 5’08” – 6’ and looks to be in his early twenties. He wore all black clothing including a black flat brimmed baseball style cap that was too large for his head.

The second perpetrator is a thin black man who stands about 5’06” – 5’07”, had short hair, and looks to be in his early twenties. He wore all black clothing.”

Both men should be considered armed and dangerous,” as police are not certain which one had the gun.

New Haven Police are asking for the public’s help tracking down the suspects and the getaway car. (An example of the type of car they’re looking for is pictured above.) Anyone with information that could aid with this investigation is urged to call 203 – 946-6316 or 203 – 946-6304 to speak with a detective.
