What’s that guy playing on the nose flute? At a celebration for the nursery school that brought them all together, these kids tried to guess. (Click on the play arrow to see for yourself). 
Nose flautist David Heiser pulled out the instrument inside the Meeting House of United Church on the Green this weekend, as part of a show celebrating the 45th anniversary of the United Community Nursery School Saturday.
Heiser showed a roomful of kids how the air blows down from the nose over the mouthpiece, like wind passing over opening of a bottle. Changing the shape of your mouth creates different notes.
David and Tricia Mangold Heiser were one a dozen acts in a day of music-related fun called Kids Rock, organized by the Advocate‘s Chris Arnott.

The UCNS was founded in 1962 as a mission of United Church with the goal of
providing early childhood education to kids of different races, religions, cultures and backgrounds. In the words of Betty Baisden, the school’s director, “Our purpose is to help them know and respect one another from an early age.”
