Lamont Easing Covid Restrictions

Gov. Ned Lamont Thursday announced that he’s easing Covid-19 restrictions in the state starting mid-March, as vaccines offer hope amid concerns from federal health officials that a rush to lessen precautions will lead to a new surge of cases.

Lamont announced that starting Friday, March 19, the state will no longer limit capacity at stores, libraries, gyms, museums, offices or houses of worship.

Rules requiring face coverings, social distancing remain in place, along with eight-person table capacities and 11 p.m. closing times at restaurants.

Bars that don’t serve food must remain closed, and indoor theaters must continue to abide by a 50 percent capacity limit. Stadiums and other large-event venues may open in April.

Under the revised rules, sports tournaments may resume, along with all sports practices and competitions.

Beginning March 29, early-childhood class capacity limits will increase from 16 to 20. Beginning Friday, April 2, amusement parks may open, summer camps and festivals may begin planning stages to open for the upcoming season,” outdoor event venues may operate at 50 percent capacity (up to 10,000 people), and indoor stadiums may run at 10 percent capacity.
