It is getting more and more difficult teaching in New Haven every year. I'm one of the "veteran" teachers now. I've seen 115 teachers come and go in my own school in the past 10 years.

It is becoming more and more difficult because of all the murders happening in New Haven. Teachers watch these children grow up just to be shot and killed. How many people have jobs where they come into contact with more than 125 children every year.

I've gotten to know over 12,500 people in my career. I've seen too many of them in this section of the news. It is so disheartening to see this happening to the community.

Bring your children up to be well-aged, not young corpses, please.

Just so sad. This senseless violence is terribly depressing. Why, why, why?
My condolences to the family and this young man's friends. Why the violence? Why do you carry guns? Why do you shoot people? What is the point? Really? Why? Oh, why? I cry.

Tell Mr. WASSD to start fixing up his properties and that should reduce the Homicide rate as well.

If there were fewer abandoned and blighted properties on Whalley, and less rampant speeding and red light running, there would be less violence.

Blight and urban disorder, not poverty, police patrols, or education level, are by the single greatest predictors of violence.

Regional draws like Edge of the Woods are losing a lot of business, and gorgeous neighborhoods like Edgewood and Beaver Hills are losing a lot of property value, because of violence like this. That means fewer jobs for the surrounding Dwight and Dixwell neighborhoods.

The most effective strategy would be to cut some money from our expensive policing, schools, and anti-poverty programs and instead put them into reducing the amount of blight, broken glass and trash on this Avenue. Fine the property owners who let their buildings decay.

The amount of construction and maintenance needed to fix this could also create many local jobs.

Anon, please tell me that's sarcasm! Blight is a serious problem but to take ANY money out of policing or education is outlandish! There has to be a more sensible way to tackle the problem than taking from education and policing.
