Somebody shot 18-year-old Devaante Jackson around 8 p.m. Thursday night at Rosette and Hurlburt streets in the Hill. Jackson, who lives in West Haven, died later Thursday evening at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The shooting occurred on the sidewalk, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman. “It is possible” the fatal shot came from someone inside “a white Chrysler 300 (or similar type vehicle)” with “chrome wheel rims, tinted windows and a sunroof.”
Detectives are pursuing “strong leads,” Hartman reported. Anyone with information is asked to call the cops at 203 – 946-6304.
I haven't been to this street corner in the past few months, but if you go to Google Streetview to look at it, there are four corners, each one with a house. ALL FOUR of the houses are boarded up.
Shootings are far more common when properties are boarded up. But who is going to invest in this area when there are poorly-maintained slum properties like this one right down the block?
