Argument Ends With Man Shot Dead

Twenty-seven-year-old Tyishoun Matheney died after someone shot him repeatedly during a late-night argument in Hamden.

The homicide occurred at Goodrich and Butler streets early Sunday just after midnight.

The victim, who lived in New Haven, was engaged in a heated’ verbal argument prior to being shot,” according to a release issued Sunday by Hamden police spokesperson Capt. Ronald Smith. After the victim had fallen to the ground, he was shot several more times.”

It was Hamden’s third homicide of 2021.

Another Hamden shooting took place around 24 hours earlier, when a 43-year-old New Haven man was shot multiple times during an argument with a patron of Chazmo’s Bar. Police found the victim lying on the sidewalk, with several gunshot wounds,” leading to chest and hip injuries, according to Capt. Smith. The victim was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital. The shooter fled in a motor vehicle. One bullet landed inside the bar.

These incidents are not believed to be random, and Hamden Police have several leads they are actively working on,” Mayor Curt Leng and Police Chief John Sullivan stated in a separate release.
