Student Admitted For Evaluation After Noose Found In School Bathroom

Clearly what is needed is more cameras! 🙄

I am heartbroken on many counts. While I understand the hateful and racist history of the noose and the need for this potential act of discrimination and intimidation to be addressed at the highest level with clear wording of intolerance and consequences, let us not forget to consider this to be a possible cry for help for suicide. Although less common , even young children are at risk... In either case the very least that should be done is a letter sent home to all NHPS families with contact information for local resources included . Again, as a community this cannot be tolerated! No child left behind should be charged to every child counts in our community, which by the way includes "u "and "i " .

just to note my original post was prior to the clarification regarding a student admitted for evaluation for possible self harm I would not make light of such a situation.

Thank you to The Independent for running this story. I received the letter, and would otherwise have remained unaware that the nature of the incident had changed so drastically had it not been for this article. (Letter below.)
My heart goes out to the student and family. I send them support and hope that the community will pivot appropriately from the initial misrepresentation of what happened.

Letter:

Dear Nathan Hale Community,

A noose fashioned from a shoestring was found in a restroom at Nathan Hale today. The incident is being investigated.

This is a very serious breach of the values of our community. Such behavior cannot and will not be tolerated. We will work with staff and students to understand what happened and to keep it from occurring again. We will take action to make sure students are safe, and all are respected.

We need more everything in schools.
Always have. There has never been enough of anything in the NHPS. I went to school here from K-12 and there was never enough of anything whether it be from A to Z, you name it there's not an adequate supply of it from material to immaterial, person to plastic, animate to inanimate, flesh and blood to wood and steel. New Haven has been plagued with big city syndrome ever since I can remember and the people that run it could never possibly understand it. It's A huge community with vastly different groups of people and the people that we choose to run it unfortunately are typically the lesser of two evils, They will never understand it, if you took the money out of the politics there wouldn't be anybody there. Nobody really cares they just do what they can to get by and pretend to listen to the people that do care. This leaves the people in their communities To do what they can with what they have And hope for the best fortunately human nature allows most of us to come out OK.
