Might a new business model be in the offing to spawn the next generation of quality local news organizations?
Independent Editor Paul Bass made that case during an episode of WNPR’s “Where We Live” program. He argued that advertising will never again pay the bills for local news. But a gradual shift in consumer behavior will soon propel a (non-charitable-based) reader-supported model nationwide, the best — as Candide might have put it — of all possible models.
