Recount Ordered In Ward 25

Aren't both of these candidates on the ballot in November?

If so, I'm kind of surprised that the NHI would declare "victory" for one or the other, when today's vote was little more than a beauty pageant.

(If I'm right, and both of these candidates are on November's ballot, does a tiny win mean anything at all?)

Sorry to sound like a broken record. But I think the NHI is wrong to report an inconclusive "victory" as anything but inconclusive....

Why, oh why could not the vote pullers get into the building when the absentee ballots were counted. This is a violation of the law. There is no excuse that a guard did not hear their knocking at the door.

This is not the first time this has happened, ok, so what is the logical conclusion. Interesting to note the endorsed candidate is said to have collected more absentees than the "endorsed" candidate.

Is this the New Haven democratic machine pulling tricks in favor of its candidate? Maybe John DeStefano, Susie Voigt et al can't handle the landslide for non-machine candidates, and they're making Westville into Florida in 2000.

Mike Slattery is not running in the general election. I believe Adam Marchand has qualified for the general but if he wins the primary this race is over. Einhorn could not remember who got what votes? No one counting could remember which candidate prevailed? REALLY?! Now I have heard everything.

If you want to be fiscally responsible (ROTFL) put them both on the November ballot and don't waste taxpayer money on a recount...

We need a new registrar of voters if this routinely happens.

Mike did not file to run as anything other than a Democrat. Adam did, but that is moot unless the recount changes the result. We were told by one voter that the machine tally did not advance after his ballot was scanned, so there may be a discrepancy between the paper ballots at the poll and the machine tally.

But will there be hanging chads?

Is it really going to take until Friday to recount less than 1k total ballots? Am I over simplifying this?

Frankly if either candidate could not be present at the absentee recount, or two representatives from each candidate were unable to be present then the machine tally should stand.

Having unmanned locked doors at such a sensitive and important procedure is, I must say, highly inappropriate, and I should think it would be illegal! Should not politics be a noble science, and a noble endeavor!

I, like many others, was very upset in 2006 when Lieberman disregarded the will of the Democratic voters and ran against Lamont in the general election as an independent after loosing the primary.
Mike Slattery (to be clear my husband) is a long standing progressive Democrat decided not to do that very thing.
So if Mike looses the primary he will not be on the ballot. So from his standpoint this primary was not "a beauty pageant".
I am sure that he, like many of us in this great city, will continue to make it what it is and endeavor to improve it.

I don't want anyone making ludicrous claims such as 'we don't remember who won in the count,' and 'the public is barred every year from recounts accidentally' anywhere NEAR my ballot.

The recount will make a difference if there were more then 18 blank ballots for mayor that my have been miscalculated by the machine. It is highly unlikely but technically can happen.

Either way it is an interesting civics lesson
