School Choice Lottery Postponed Two Weeks

Because of the Covid-19 crisis, parents who entered the School Choice Lottery will have to wait until at least April 14 to find out where their kids will go next academic year.

Following is a release about that from the New Haven Public Schools:

The New Haven Public Schools will postpone the results of the 2020 New Haven Public School Choice Placement (lottery) Process until April 14, 2020. School placement results for the 2020 – 2021 school year were scheduled to be released on March 31, 2020. Amid school building closures and the current COVID-19 pandemic, all district offices will remain closed until further notice. These closures make it difficult for both Central Office and School staff to communicate with parents as we would normally do regarding placement and registration processes. It is because of these factors that we feel it is in the best interest of families to postpone.

As a district and community, we believe the primary focus must be the safety, education and well-being of our students and staff. The Office of School Choice & Enrollment is currently working closely with the Superintendent to amend the scheduled release of all placement results, the handling of required school registration processes and revised response times to accept seat offers. Amending these processes will allow for parents to complete the acceptance and registration processes from the safety of their homes and will allow us to follow through on Mayor Elicker’s order to maintain social distancing while we get through this pandemic as a community.

All school choice applicants will receive regular updates via email from the Office of School Choice & Enrollment as we move these processes forward. All applying families are asked to monitor their emails and text messages closely for additional information. Additionally, the Office of School Choice & Enrollment will make all updates available on both www.nhps.net and www.newhavenmagnetschools.com.

Should you have any questions regarding the school choice process, please contact The Office of School Choice & Enrollment at [email protected] or the Director of School Choice & Enrollment at [email protected].
