YNHH, SEIU Sign New Food Workers Contract

Yale-New Haven Hospital and the hospital’s cafeteria workers union have signed a new five-year contract that extends through 2023.

The hospital announced the newly struck labor deal in a Thursday afternoon press release.

The food workers union, New England Health Care Employees Union, District 1199, SEIU, represents 268 employees at the hospital’s York Street campus.

I know I speak for our entire senior leadership when I say that we are committed to working with all YNHH employees, including those represented by our unions, to honor the critical role our employees, physicians, and management staff play in making YNHH a destination hospital,” hospital President Richard D’Aquila is quoted as saying in the release.

The hard work of both bargaining committees ensured a fair contract for YNHH and our SEIU members, said union assistant chief Hugh Edwards. The mutual respect demonstrated throughout contract talks is a positive and powerful step in continuing the strong collaboration for the future.”

Talks on the four-year pact (which runs from Jan. 1, 2019 through December 2023) focused on the mutual support for skill building, development and career growth of employees as well as promoting consistent operational best practices,” according to the release.
