Arrestee Goes To Court, Arrested Again — This Time For Masklessness

A 36-year-old New Haven man came to court Friday facing sexual assault, probation violation, and police-interference charges. He left with an additional charge to combat: Defying a pandemic order to wear a mask.

The man, who has multiple cases pending against him, showed up at Superior Court Friday on Elm Street.

An executive order requires people to wear masks inside courthouses to guard against the spread of Covid-19.

The man showed up without a mask. State troopers came to the scene on reports of a disturbance at the courthouse. They arrived to find the man being detained by marshals who had escorted him out of the lobby.

He was charged with second-degree breach of peace and with violating the face cover executive order, and released on a $2,500 bond. He is to appear in court on March 12 to answer to those charges, according to a state police press release.

He has a separate court date scheduled for nine days prior to that — for three cases, two involving sexual assault. He’s now on notice to bring a mask.
