The city plans to close down parts of Orange Street for two weeks and parts of Church Street for two days to accommodate a transmission tower removal and a three-on-three basketball tournament, respectively.

New Haven – City officials today announced plans for two imminent downtown street closures – one set to last two weeks, the other just two days – and advised motorists to make alternate plans accordingly.
Beginning at 6:00 a.m. this Saturday, August 3, Orange Street will be closed to all vehicles between Grove Street and Wall Street. This closure is scheduled to last until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18.
A pedestrian walkway will remain open throughout this period and all businesses, residences, driveways, and parking areas will remain open and accessible. A detour will be posted for through traffic, however, and motorists are advised to plan an alternate route.
This street closure will allow Frontier Communications to remove an obsolete, 100-foot transmission tower from the roof of its building on that block along Orange Street.
In addition, again beginning at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, Church Street will be closed to all traffic between Chapel Street and Elm Street, and this closure will last until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 4.
Again, pedestrians will have ready access throughout the closure; in fact, pedestrians are encouraged to attend a special event prompting the street closure, the Connecticut Big 3 Ball out – also known as the CB3B – a two-day, multi-city, three-on-three basketball tournament for young people.
