Social service agency FSW sent in a photo and write up about an award given Takima Saunders, a manager with FSW:
Takima Saunders of New Haven, Outreach Specialist with Family Assets, was awarded the Family Champions’ Award, representing FSW. The award is given by the CT Council of Family Service Agencies, and was presented to Takima for her work as FSW’s Primary Service Manager for the Empowering People for Success program, and especially with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
VITA completed over 400 tax returns this year; many of these clients will also get an earned income tax credit.
FSW’s mission is to empower people to build a brighter future. Employing a holistic approach, FSW links flexible, innovative and collaborative programs that restore personal capability, develop skills and build a pathway to economic self sufficiency.
It took some googling, but FSW is a program out of Bridgeport. Took a little bit longer to find out they are actually called "Family Services Woodfield Inc".
Not sure why this is New Haven related, as there are at least 10 different locations doing VITA work in New Haven producing a few thousand returns.
That being said, good job by Ms. Saunders!
