Where To Vote & Who’s Running

Sixty thousand New Haveners get the chance Tuesday to weigh in on who should run New Haven for the next two years, at the end of a dizzying election season.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 33 stations around town. Click here to find your polling place.

New Haven had 60,148 registered voters as of the deadline for this election, according to the Registrar of Voters office: 40,372 Democrats, 2,473 Republicans, 16,680 unaffiliated, and 623 members of third parties. (Last-minute sign-up is available on election day.)

Two candidates are on the ballot for mayor: Democrat Justin Elicker and Working Families Party candidate (and incumbent) Toni Harp. Click here, here and here for stories about their race, a rematch from September’s Democratic primary. Since that primary, their roles have shifted: Elicker is the frontrunner, backed by top elected officials, while Harp is running as an outsider taking on the establishment.

Two candidates have registered as write-in candidates: Seth Poole (read about him here and here) and Roger Uhlein. That means if you write in their names, their votes are supposed to be counted (as opposed to generic write in” votes).

All 30 Board of Alders seats are up for grabs too. Many seats are uncontested. But not all. The following list includes links to stories about the races.

• Democratic candidate Eli Sabin faces Republican Chris Marcisz for the open Ward 1 seat downtown.

• In the Hill, incumbent Democrat Ron Hurt faces petitioning challenger Maria Rodriguez in Ward 3, while Democrat Kampton Singh faces petitioning candidate Germano Kimbro for the open Ward 5 seat.

• In City Point (and part of the Hill), Democrat Carmen Rodriguez faces Republican John Carlson for a seat being vacated by Alder Dolores Colon.

• In East Rock and Cedar Hill, incumbent Democratic Ward 10 Alder Anna Festa faces Republican challenger Eric Mastroianni Sr.

• In Prospect Hill/Newhallville/Dixwell’s Ward 21, incumbent Democrat Steve Winter faces petitioning challengers Anais Nunez, Eddie Gist, and Maceo Streater.

• In Westville, incumbent Democrat Adam Marchand faces petitioning challenger Dennis Serfilippi in Ward 25. Ward 26 incumbent Democrat Darryl Brackeen Jr. faces Republican Joshua van Hoesen.
