Yale University has suspended its shuttle and safe ride services, except for the West Campus shuttle, which will run on its normal schedule for the remainder of the week, in its latest response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The university announced the suspension of service via a Saturday evening email alert. The initial update indicated that all shuttle service would be suspended. A subsequent note clarified that the West Campus shuttle route will be maintained until the end of the week.

The actual suspension of service went into effect Sunday at noon.

In the interest of public health, the University will suspend all shuttles and safe ride services, except the West Campus shuttles, which will run as normal for the remainder of the week,” the alert read. This will be effective tomorrow at noon until further notice. Please practice social distancing while traveling on the shuttles. If you have been asked to come to campus to perform critical work and do not have parking, the University has made available Lot 16 and the Pierson Sage Garage located at 260 Whitney Ave. Special services will be available to those on the pre-approved list on an as needed basis only. Contact 203 – 432-9690 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and after hours contact 203 – 432-6330.”

Yale runs five free daytime shuttles and three free nighttime shuttles. It also offers on-demand, door-to-door safe ride” service for students, staff and faculty between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m on a daily basis.

The move follows the university’s decision on Saturday to direct students on spring break to stay home and take their courses online through the rest of the semester because of the spread of the novel coronavirus.
