Man Killed at N. Harbor Street Railroad Tracks Identified

UPDATE — Branford police are assisting Amtrak police in investigating the death of a man on the train tracks along North Harbor St. The tracks bisect North Harbor Street and run parallel to Elm Street.

Today the Office of the Chief Connecticut Medical Examiner said that Dennis Ryan, Jr. has been identified as the person killed on the train tracks along North Harbor St. yesterday. The cause of death is listed as suicide from blunt injuries, the office said. Click here to read the obituary.

He was 23. A graduate of Branford High School, class of 2014, Ryan, who was known as DJ,” was a member of the National Honor Society. He was also the tri-captain of the football team and co-captain of the lacrosse team. He attended UConn and played for the club lacrosse team there.

Ryan was struck around noon by an Acela train traveling from Boston to New York. According to Branford police Capt. Geoff Morgan, the Branford Fire Department was on the scene and pronounced the man dead.

Train traffic was held up for about an hour while police were investigating. Branford police assisted with security.
