
Alma Cecile Pina, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015.
She was orn in Kingston, Jamaica, BWI, Aug. 1, 1922, to Peter and Hazel I. (Saunders) Black.
She immigrated to the United States in 1950 as a stenographer and modeled. In 1960, she married Everett Pina, and raised two sons and a daughter in New Haven, Conn. She received her U.S. citizenship in 1968 and soon after became involved in local politics in Conn. After retiring to North Port, Fla, Alma became an active member of the North Port Democratic Club and attended numerous Florida Democratic Party conventions.
She was a longtime member of St. Nathaniel’s Episcopal Church in North Port.

She is survived by husband of 54 years Everett, daughter Suzanne (Greg) of North Port; Richard Jerome of Detroit, MI; and Stephen (Audra) of Statesville, N.C.; brother Victor (Alyson) Cooke, and sister Audra Rhoden; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alma is preceded in death by grandchildren Richard Justin and Victoria Elizabeth.
Alma will be interred in Sarasota National Cemetery.
