Edwinna Beth Ewing, 75

Edwinna Beth Ewing, 75, departed this life peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded in love by her family. Edwinna was born on January 17, 1949, in New Haven CT to Carl Davis Bogan Sr & Rosemary DeCosta Bogan.

Edwinna graduated from West Haven High School in 1967, and after her high school career, she attended Stone Academy. She married John L. Ewing Jr., on March 22, 1973, in New Haven, CT, where they raised their 4 daughters. She held a variety of jobs including keypunch operator, then worked in the display advertising department at the New Haven Register for over 25 years before she took a well-deserved retirement in 2008. She went on to be a home health care companion for the elderly in her most recent years. 

She loved writing short stories and poems, also was crafty, creatively, and artistically inclined. Her sense of humor was hysterical, she lived for her family & was her mother’s primary caregiver until she could no longer fulfill that roll. She was very active in her church and enjoyed her church family. She loved to sew secondhand neckties together to make different things, she loved horses, elephants (elphenants), patchouli and overripe bananas that she used to call bondonyers”. She doted upon her daughters and was always present & ready to help any of them with anything, anytime.

She is predeceased by her father, Carl D. Bogan Sr; brother, Carl D. Bogan Jr.; sister, Deborah Ann Bogan Jackson; sister, Cynthia Bogan; sister, Rosemary Brisker; and niece, Chaka Brisker.

She is survived by her mother, Rosemary DeCosta Hoke of New Haven; brother, Lawrence Bogan Sr. (Pauline) of Nantucket, Mass; former husband and best friend, John L. (Jomma) Ewing; daughters, Erika K. Bogan of New Haven; Jomika Bogan (Shawn) of New Haven; Mia Knight (Albert) of Hamden; Nikki Alamo (David) of New Haven; grandchildren, Garred Grate (Gina) of North Haven; Geremy Grate (Stephanie) of Milford; Taylor Grate (Kinga) of San Diego CA; Canaan Murphy of New Haven; Niko Bailey of Bristol; Nivi Forbes of New Haven; Kaid Alamo of New Haven; great granddaughter, Summer Sum Body” Rose Grate; and goddaughter, Maryella Hall.
