Elaine Whitmire, 84, of New Haven, departed this life December 2, 2012.
She was the wife of Charles Whitmire.
Born in Spartanburg, SC, November 3, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Rossi and Sallie Byrd White West.
Prior to retiring, she was employed by the City of New Haven as the Director of Elderly Services.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Camille Whitmire; grandchildren, Lawrence C. Gibson III, Courtlandt C. Whitmire-Gibson and Amber M. Whitmire; two great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Denise M. Gibson.
A celebration of Mrs. Whitmire’s life and legacy will be held Friday, December 7, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Burial will be private. Online guestbook available at www.curvinkcouncil.com
