James Hooks, 87

James R. Hooks, 87, of New Haven, departed this life June 13, 2014. He was the husband of Mary Green-Hooks.

Born in Tallahassee, FL, December 7, 1926, he was the son of the late James and Fanny Huckaby Hooks.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Hooks was employed for numerous years as a Truck Driver. He was a member of First Church of God and was also a Marine Corps veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Jamika S. Hooks (Adrienne) and Ronald Miller (Beverly); daughters, Kathleen and Chelsea Hooks, Carol Martin, Conneatta Cummings (Sidney), Pamela McElveen, Damonda Cummings (Napolean) and Dannette Minder; a daughter in-law, Dolores Staggers Hooks; 23 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by sons, James Jr., Jimmy and Paul Hooks; brothers, Samuel and Leonard Hooks; and a sister, Ann Edwards.
A celebration of Mr. Hooks’ life and and legacy will be held Thursday, June 19, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at First Church of God, 90 Harper Ave., New Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. Professional services entrusted to Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven.
