Virginia Whitworth, 75

Virginia Marie Banks-Cloud Whitworth, 75, former resident of New Haven, passed away on August 15, 2013, at St Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT.

She was born on April 9, 1938 in New Haven, CT. to the late Merrit Banks and Laura (Percy) Colebut Banks-Faust. Virginia was a loving and devoted wife to Victor Whitworth for over 44 years. Virgina was a Native American of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and she is the great grand-daughter of the late Earl Roy Colebut Sr., the former Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Elder and World War II Veteran. Virginia worked for the city of New Haven from 1970 ‑1976 as both a Justice of the Peace Officiant and The City Treasurer. She was the First Lady and co-founder of Victory Temple Church COGIC. Besides her loving husband, Victor, she leaves to cherish her memories, sons, Michael (Tracy) Banks Sr. of Redmond, OR., Edward (Velisha) Cloud of New Haven, Steven C. Cloud of Norfolk,VA.; daughters, Michele (Phillip) Whitworth of W. Haven, Harollenia (Bassarou) Cloud-Ourd-Bode, Rosalie E. Cloud-Station both of New Haven; brothers, Samuel (Sherryle) Thomas of W. Haven, Anthony (Carleen) Allen of Waterbury; sisters, Anne Marie (Marshal) Booth, Elizabeth Banks Moye both of Hampton, VA., Rebecca (James) Banks-Stephenson of Newport News, VA., Marie Thomas, Shirley A. Banks both of New Haven; 36 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 7 great, great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by brothers, Merritt, George, Robert, and Walter Banks, John Fields, John Lee and David Thomas. A Celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11AM at Church on The Rock, 95 Hamilton Street, New Haven, CT 06511, with calling hours Thursday from 10 – 11AM at the church.
