29-Yr-Old Stabbed To Death On Whalley

Someone stabbed 29-year-old Southern Connecticut State University student Nico Saraceni to death on Whalley Avenue Monday night.

That’s according to city police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway, who sent out an email press release about the homicide Tuesday morning.

On Wednesday morning, Shumway sent out an update email identifying the 29-year-old New Haven victim as Saraceni. At this point in the investigation, it appears as if this was not a random act of violence,” Police Chief Karl Jacobson is quoted as saying in that press release. I do not believe there is a threat to the public at this time.”

In his Tuesday morning press release, Shumway wrote that, at around 9:31 p.m. on Monday, city police received a 911 call about a person stabbed on Whalley between Whittlesey Avenue and Osborn Avenue.

Responding officers found a 29-year-old New Haven man who had been stabbed. An ambulance transported the victim to Yale New Haven Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.”

At Tuesday night’s online meeting of the city Board of Police Commissioners, Jacobson added a few more details about what police believe happened that night. There was some kind of dispute, because people in the area heard arguing, and then the victim was stabbed,” Jacobson told the commissioners.

Police ask that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with the Police contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203 – 946-6304. Callers may remain anonymous or submit tips anonymously by calling 1 – 866-888-TIPS(8477), or text NHPD plus your message” to 274637 (CRIMES).

Wednesday’s stabbing death marked the city’s ninth homicide so far this year.
