New Haven police responded to three shootings over the weekend.
The third, which occurred on Davenport Avenue between Baldwin and Elliot Streets Sunday at 9:08 p.m., caused the most serious reported injuries, according to police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway. A 27-year-old New Haven man who was shot, apparently multiple times, is listed in “critical but stable” condition at Yale New Haven Hospital, where his arrival Sunday evening reportedly led to a temporary lockdown.
The first reported shooting occurred on Sherman Avenue between Whalley Avenue and Percival Street Friday night at 10:38. The victim, a 34-year-old New Haven man is listed in stable condition at the hospital, Shumway reported.
So is a 43-year-old New Haven man who was shot on Hazel Street between Winchester Avenue and Newhall Street Saturday at 3:03 a.m.
Can someone explain to me why there has been a sudden uptick in violence this summer and fall? I may not be fully informed, but it seems to me that there were not this many violent crimes occuring just 6 or 7 months ago. Does anyone know why? Has something changed in the police department, city government, etc.? What might be the cause?
