Another Cop Placed On Leave Amid Domestic Violence Investigation

The officers accused of domestic violence are entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence. But there appears to be a pattern here that warrants a review of NHPD hiring practices.

All these cops hooking up with each other.. recipe for disaster clearly.

Lower the hiring standards so the square peg fits into the round hole … and this is what you get .. but hey .. the department reflects the community and people in the community are continually arrested for domestic violence issues !

Thanks for reporting this and now sweeping under the rug or behind “the thin blue line”. Domestic violence and steroid abuse is a huge problem in law enforcement. Probably alcohol, too.

So how many years does the 2nd Officer have on the job and is the 20 year veteran the he in this case . Also kudos to the Psychologists at Behavioral Health Consultants ( The City’s contracted Psychological firm ) who keep giving the green light to hire all these people who keep getting arrested

Ten years ago you would get over three thousand applicants. Now, your lucky to get four hundred.
Unfortunately I feel that some people are squeaking through the cracks and should not be officers.
But the question is why don’t people turn out for the applicant pool?

Not that this shouldn't have been written, but to me if I had to pick 1, the 3rd teacher getting arrested this academic year for assaulting a student would have been the article I chose to write. Maybe instead of having 2 authors write this story, each could have taken one.

I know the NHI has the hots for shitting on the cop shop, and in cases like these doing so isn't necessarily wrong. But only covering 2/3 assaults and doing so with quick "Staff" regurgitation of press releases with no follow up is journalistic malpractice. I hope that a fully researched investigative journalism piece is coming and I'd happily put my foot in my mouth if that drops soon.

I don't excuse these officers' behavior but I think the stress of the job contributes to having relationships with fellow workers and to violence in relationships. I suspect these relationships are just as likely to occur among hospital or correction facility staff but go unreported, I don't think a psychological test 20 years ago would have uncovered a predisposition for this behavior. Mental health supports ae needed by these individuals before these things happen.

We have to hold police officers to a higher standard. If we can’t trust that officers will follow the law, and are emotionally unstable enough to be perpetrators of domestic violence, how can we trust them to respond appropriately when members of the public call for help for a domestic violence incident? How can we trust that they won’t lose their temper and bully others or respond with violence to a highly stressful situation, and use their best judgement and best behavior, when they can’t do that in their personal lives?
That being said, I think that first responders should have regular and easy access to mental health care to address the stress, anxiety, depression, substance abuse and interpersonal conflicts that can be related to and magnified by working under highly stressful and dangerous jobs that put a premium on stoicism and toughness and where asking for help is seen as a weakness. The police, fire department, and EMTs/Paramedics should be able to easily and readily talk to a therapist when they are struggling or when they have been exposed to trauma, to help keep them healthy mentally and to learn techniques that will help them to cope and to use alternative methods to deal with conflict besides violence.

The higher ups need to take a closer look at all these domestic violence situations involving the officers and come up with a plan to help out these officers and their families that obviously in crisis.
Regarding officers hooking up with other officers from the same department is not the best thing to do because when things don’t work out, you still have to work with that officer that you were involved with. There is a saying… Don’t S$&t where you work.
