We have a global inflation issue caused by the pandemic related supply chain issues and Russia’s war in Ukraine, and now OPEC reducing oil production, and greedy mega corporations shrinking products and raising prices, and lack of employees, and increased demand for products and oil related products from consumers. So we are facing a global recession. There isn’t much that any politician can do to change those issues, per the many economic analysts who have been watching the economy’s ups and downs over the decades. Anyone who tells you a politician can do much to impact those issues, is lying to you.
And the rainy day funds are for emergencies, and we are going to be facing more pandemics per the scientists who study those viruses due to global warming and humans encroaching on previously undeveloped lands, and more frequent and severe storms per the climate scientists due to global warming. We have been lucky so far with severe storms, but it’s only a matter of time before we get hit by a big one, like Florida. Rainy day funds would help CT and New Haven to to get through and recover from these types of events.

I hope that even the most die hard Dems and Repubs see through the shams of these artificial surpluses. They were created by ham handed pork handouts to win elections; not through careful planning and governance which we desperately need at every level of government. All we get is smoke. mirrors. and flat out lies. If we are stupid enough to fall for them; we deserve what we get.
And I agree with Paul that the VIOP internet phone service is BAD. Landline is now so much more that it is not reasonable to pay that much extra but I miss the reliable service. GONETSPEED???

Robn- Trump temporarily impacted the rise in oil prices by convincing OPEC to reduce production, (to make profits for him and his rich buddies,) but then the prices tanked in spring 2020 to zero at one tiny point of time due to the pandemic shutdown and reduced demand before rising back up again. We also had hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico disrupting US oil production, but Russia and Middle Eastern oil producing countries heavily influence oil prices. OPEC just recently decided to reduce oil output. The war that Russia created by attacking Ukraine is a big disrupter of energy supplies to Europe, natural gas, oil and nuclear power supplies has been impacted, creating a energy supply crisis in Europe and rising global prices. Conflict in the Middle East has often created issues with the oil supply. All these factors come into play with fossil fuels prices and supply. All the more reason to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and pivot to solar, wind, hydro, and unfortunately (due to its radioactive waste that pollutes the earth for thousands of years and is difficult to safely store it,) nuclear power.
Politicians have only limited and temporary potential influence over foreign fossil fuel production, or domestic fossil fuel supply, and the industry is subject to the weather, war, the supply source underground, greed from the producers, and demand from consumers.
Again, no politician has much control over global oil prices because of the above factors.
Just like they have little control over inflation. But they sure like to make the voters think they do, and try to convince us that they can do better than the current administration. And we keep believing their false promises, despite the experts telling us it is not true. We keep thinking if we vote a different administration in, that it will make the economy better, but it almost never has any real impact on the economy.
