Two men ran up behind a 21-year-old cyclist as he rode on the Farmington Canal Trail around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
The cyclist and two friends were headed to Shelton Avenue’s City Climb Gym.
Around Munson Street, the two men knocked the 21-year-old off his bike, “hit him when he was down and made off with his bike and backpack,” which included his climbing gear, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman.
The victim, who “wasn’t badly hurt,” retained his wallet, keys and cell phone, Hartman reported.
Two words: BEAR SPRAY
Works on grizzlies, works even better on muggers! (I never ride the New Haven portion of the canal trail without it.)
