The toilets in the women’s room at the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen have been acting up on a weekly basis. And every week the plumber comes and has to get paid.
“The last time he was here he told me I should just get them replaced to save money,” said Executive Director Diana M. Richter, pictured with Alex Yuknat, Richter’s assistant and evening coordinator in the center and Faith, an intern, on the left. “Because they are very old.”
The Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen serves, on average, 300 people a day. To give monetary donations for the toilets, send a check made out to Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen to P.O. Box 1478, New Haven, CT 06506. Include a note saying the money goes toward the toilets. To donate plumbing services or non-perishable food, call 203 – 624-6426.
Perhaps the folks at Eli Whitney Tech can send one of their students to the soup kitchen as part of their internship program. or perhaps the good folks at Yale will lend a maintenence worker as an in kind donation. either way, they should be looking for alternative and innovative sources for thier plumbing issues.
