Bruni Pizarro is stepping down after three years as the leader of Junta for Progressive Action, New Haven’s oldest Hispanic social-services agency.
She made the announcement in a video released this week.
In the video (above), she speaks of how the Fair Haven-based agency tackled vaccine hesitancy and equity and the eviction crisis since she assumed the executive director position right before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Pizarro said she is leaving to start a marketing firm with her husband, Daniel Pizarro, called For La Diáspora.
Pizarro’s last day at Junta is April 21. The agency is searching for an interim director, according to board Chair Rafael Ramos.
“We wish her well in her future endeavors,” Junta board Chair Rafael Ramos said of Pizarro.
An incredible leader and innovator, Junta will certainly miss your presence! Having seen first hand how much the pandemic impacted the nonprofit sector in New Haven, Miss Pizarro was a shinning example of how to adapt and seize the opportunity to think outside the box and reinvent Junta for the better. I love to see nonprofits and government agencies working in collaboration to meet the need of our communities. Thank you for this wonderful video, I think it captured the story of your tenure beautifully. Much luck with your future endeavors.
