Man, 22, Shot Dead In Hamden

Police have identified the 22-year-old man dead inside a car in the road on Fairview Avenue: His name was Herman Bellamy.

Police discovered Bellamy’s killing Saturday at around 10:45 p.m., according to a release from Hamden police spokesperson Sean J. Dolan.

They had responded to the scene upon receiving a report of shots fired. Bellamy, who lived in Hamden, was pronounced dead at the scene, where police recovered multiple handguns” along with ballistic evidence, Dolan reported.

On Monday, Dolan reported in a subsequent release that a preliminary investigation revealed that a 19-year-old New Haven man who was a passenger in Bellamy’s car had fired a handgun from inside the vehicle. Police have arrested the man on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, and illegal discharge of a firearm.
