An exchange of gunfire in the Edgewood neighborhood Tuesday afternoon ended with a driver getting hit by a bullet, crashing his car, then fleeing.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Brownell and Maple Streets shortly before 1:30 p.m.
Witnesses later told police they saw gunfire coming from inside a grey or blue SUV directed at a sedan. The driver of the SUV fled the scene. The sedan driver was struck in the lower leg, drove down Maple to Pendleton Street …
… then crashed by a front porch on Pendleton Street (above). The shot driver fled the scene, and later arrived at the hospital with a single non-life-threatening wound, according to police. The victim’s age was not immediately available.
Police are investigating the incident.
I lived down the street for 55 years. It was once a beautiful neighborhood, like so many other parts of New Haven. Kept appealing to the local politicians and even Elicker. Elicker was useless. We finally had enough of the gunshots, crime, trash, quality of life issues. We sold the house last year. We had three apts with below market rents. House was sold to an out of town landlord and now the rents are at market. We moved but essentially got pushed out. But when the middle class gets pushed out, nobody seems to care or complain about gentrification.
