Man Shot Dead At Repair Shop

An argument at an auto repair shop at 270 Forbes Ave. Thursday ended with a 39-year-old man shot dead.

The shooting occurred inside the shop around 11 a.m.

Police said it appears that the two people were arguing when one pulled out a gun and shot the other. The victim, identified as Juan Carlos Colon of East Hartford, was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The man remained on site when officers arrived, a person of interest” in the case. Police also recovered a weapon on site.

There’s no threat to the public,” Police Chief Karl Jacobson said. We’re talking to the person who’s possibly responsible. It was contained inside the garage. It appears to be a dispute.”

Update Friday afternoon: Police subsequently arrested the man, who is 47 years old and from Clinton. They charged him with murder, criminal possession of a homicide, and carrying a pistol without a permit. He is being held on $2 million bond.
